High 2K rpm idle upon starting 200 1981

My 245 idled at 2k rpm for about 45-60 seconds and then quickly dropped back to the standard 900-1000 rpm idle. This happened right after starting. It never happened before. The engine was warm (I drove it an hour earlier with no problems). The throttle cable was fine, wasn't sticking, so I'm not sure what the prob could be.

I doubt this is related.... the voltage regulator on my alternator seems to be acting up. At idle (warm alternator, no accessories turned on) the voltage is usually at 13.6 at the battery. For periods of a few seconds, the voltage jumps to 14.4 at the battery. I not sure if this could cause a high idle... but if the regulator is failing, could 15+ volts to the fuel pump cause a high idle? Thanx for the help.
