Recharging the a/c on a R-134a 700 1988

Does anyone also have to problem on a R-134a system of trying to fit the hose onto the low pressure side of the a/c???

I tried for an hour yesterday to get the connector on the LP opening. Both sides are in a very tight location on my car. One is next to the frame of the car and the other is to close to the engine block. Because of the location, the hose can't fit.

Any solution to this ordeal. I bought the kit for $25 and it seems very easy to do, except for this problem.
