Turbo cool down period

I've seen tests that showed anywhere between 25-50% longer turbo life just by fitting a turbo timer.

Oil temp at idle is quite a bit lower than oil temp after driving around under load, just letting a car idle for 1 min after driving can make a fair diffrence.
When I drive my fathers Forester GT, I allways let it idle for at least 1 min before switching off when I've been driving fairly hard, it's cheap insurance.
