Steering box installation 140-160 1970

After postong previous message here about my steering box (on a 1970 144) and checking it out, determined it had definately failed - no ball joint failure, etc.

Bought another box complete with drop arm attached. Road wheels and steering wheel were straight ahead, fitted new box, after looking at mark for straight ahead position and discovered left hand raod wheel off at an angle - the drop arm was almost straight compared to my orignal angled one.

So after much trouble got original arm off and put on new box, but it seems no matter what I do - tried 3 times now (and getting that arm off if tightened is a &*$%!??) when car on ground and driven, the mark on lower column/steering box wont align with roadwheels straigh ahead!

Marks on box currently out by 90 degrees. Is this critical? (yes, I did line up marks on box pre-fitting by turning lock to lock and coming back to centre).

Obiously driving car in to garage with wheels straight, putting up on stands and putting box on followed by arm is not good enough!!

Help!
