Sythetic oil causes seal leaks 200

Last week I switched to sythetic oil in my 1985 240DL during a routine oil change. Now I have leaks from the seals just behind the timing belt. Is this just coincidence (I have been told that these seals need to be replaced every 80,000 miles), or did I make a mistake of some kind? Perhaps the sythetic oil just exposed the wear already present in these seals?

On a side note, how does one retrieve theri lost user name and password for the brickboard?
