First the no dash light when pushing the switch.
That is a 4th gear switch problem or blown fuse. When you push the button, the relay reacts ONLY if one portion of it is grounded through the 4th gear switch.
The solenoid and dash light are in parallel after the relay. Unless they have been disconnected, any power to the solenoid would backfeed to the dash light and indicate a power supply to the solenoid which would allow the OD to engage at any speed where the pressure is sufficient to cause engagement.
You need to check at the solenoid to make sure that there is no power getting to it to allow the OD to engage. In fact, removing the ground wire for the solenoid and driving would tell you if a power feed or internal solenoid problem is causing the OD to engage on its own.
Once you are positive that there is no power to the solenoid, changing the O-rings on the OUTSIDE of the solenoid will do nothing for self engagement if the problem is internal solenoid related. The outside O-rings just ensure a seal and isolation between the solenoid and the OD case.
Only if the O-ring closest to the solenoid body allows fluid past will the OD self engage. The solenoid acts as a stopper to fluid flow until activated.
For your problem, the solenoid needs to be removed and shook. Preferably after a drive where the OD self engaged. If it rattles, which I doubt, the insides of the solenoid barrel need to be removed and those O-rings replaced after cleaning the inside of the solenoid out.
