changing to synthetic? 700 1988

I have a 1988 740 turbo which has 163000 miles. I just recently had a blown head gasket and fixed that. now runs as strong if not stronger than before. My question is if it would be agood idea to switch to a synthetic motor oil? I've heard very good things about synthetic oil and was wondering if it would be good for my engine even with all the miles. I would probably use mobile one because ive heard many very good things from friends who use it even in the cars they use at the drag strip.

Thanks in advance for all the great help allways received
