Peter, i remember doing my rear pads on my now dead 86 turbo, i had the same problem with my cal's on the rear, i took a large lock wrench to it with wood on the back side and squeezed like never before it took alittle while but it went in, you also might want to try to loosen the releaver nut to it's max or just take it out too might have something stuck behind it.
