Fault tracing 'Climate control box' 1990 760 GLE 700

Air Con Button flahing continuously. In code mode, flashes 121.Code list indicates this as: Short circuit in ambient Temp sensor on blower housing.Wires from ambient Temp sensor are OK. same code flashes with plug removed from sensor.Will this code flash if sensor has failed or is it a fault in climate control box.Gremlins have invaded at 168,000 KMs Thanks for any help to trace this fault
