B21E or B23E??? 200 1976

I have a 76 244, when I bought it I was told the engine was recently replaced with a factory long motor, but that was all they knew, the engine is strong, and it's easy to beleive it was a recent replacment because it has loosened up over the last year of driving, it felt very tight to begin with.
But having been in a couple of other volvos that were suposed to have the same engine as mine, an interesting question has been raised, my volvo feels fast, faster than any other B21E equiped car I've been in, so it's been suggested that when the engine was replaced, they fitted a B23E.

The problem? how do I tell?
I'm not keen on pulling the head off to find out that way, so does anyone know any other way to find out which model motor it is???
