Threaded bolt welded to strut rod backet??? 700 1992

I was under my 745 this weekend doing maintenance and noticed this bolt. It is a threaded bolt that is welded to the rear bracket that the strut rod is mounted to on the passenger side next to the exhaust pipe. The bolt is vertical with no appearant reason for being other than maybe a warning device to let you know that you are scrapping the bottom of the car. Any other ideas as to what its purpose is, or am I missing something??
