Turbo care and tranny problem

I am a proud owner of my second volvo..it being a 1986 760 Turbo. Its got 203K on it...yeah i know its alot, but it still runs great. I must say...this is my first car with a turbo in it(gotta love that turbo sound). Im looking for some advice on how to keep the turbo in good shape. Also, its an auto and it shifts very hard into 2nd gear....any reasons why? And while Im at it...any reason why my speedometer barely ever works?
