O/D DOA in 86 245 (M47!) 200 1986

this little quirk isn't helping me with my gas milage!
note that i have a 5-speed, not an auto.)

....my brick is normal for about the first 5-10 minutes of driving. i go to shift from 4th to overdrive, and my RPM's drop from 2000 to about 1500. normal. but then, right after it warms up some, whenever i go to do this same thing, it acts like it stays in 4th gear until i let off of it. when i do this, it acts as though i've pushed down the clutch (the car goes to idle). then, whenever i hit my accelerator, the rpms go back up to 2000 rpm (as if it was back in 4th gear.)

Has anyone else had this problem? I think it's kinda odd. As a side note, i havent checked my fluid levels for the O/D partition of the transmission. Does one even exist? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Andrew Gyger (MacGyger)
