M47 Transmission fried 700 1988

I have a 1988 740 GLE Wagon, B230F, 5 speed M47. 204,000km. The tranny had a bearing noise in 5th gear when I first bought the car at 149,000k. Now its noisy in 1st,2nd,3rd, and 5th. Just had the fluid changed for the second time. It was changed only 50,000k ago. Fluid was burned and there were many filings on the magnet. Looks like I will be needing a new tranny soon.
Any thoughts on rebuilding, buying used, would be appreciated.
Does anyone know if converting to M46 4speed with electric overdrive is feasible?
Any good transmission shops in the Toronto area of Canada or sources of used transmissions would also be appreciated.
Have already invested about $2,800.00 in repairs this year and need to make a decision if its worth putting a new tranny in.
