rust where control arm attaches to chassis - how much is too much? 700 1986

I was under my '86 745 (200K) this morning and noticed some rust where the right control arm mount is bolted to the frame. I peeled back the rubberized underoating and exposed an area of about 3"x3" of rust in front of the mount. I was able to push a screwdriver through in one place. I bet that it has been like this for a couple of years at least. The mount on the left side also has some rust, but it is not nearly as bad. I don't want my wheel to fall off, but it looks difficult to repair (or at least costly). I don't want to sink lots of $ into the car, but love my manual transmission.
