AW71 Upshifts 900

Just wondering about the upshifts on my 94 940. It seems the AW71 trans wants to stay in 2nd gear until I let off the throttle. It will shift by itself but usually in the 3k to 4k rpm range which seems a little late to me. I usually coax it to shift by letting up on the gas for a second. Not sure I like this transmission as much as the HP22 in my 86. The 1st to 2nd shift is also pretty firm. Is this a normal shift pattern or am I looking at a potential problem. I'll be doing a transmission flush next week to be on the safe side. Car has 90k miles.
