940: B234F: 60K: Died, timing belt? 900 1992

Friends,

My wife was driving today and while the car was running at about 30km/h, it just died, engine shut off. It would not start. It would crank, sounded like something turning, with a loud clanking sound.

First I thought timing belt? It was due for a change. I carefully pulled the top cover to see and it was still there - I pushed on it and it appeared tight. Isn`t there a lower small belt, on the crankshaft? Could it be that one? The clacking sound sounds like it is coming from inside the timing belt cover...

All power is fine, just doesn;t take off on start... Cranking good speed, no apparent firing...

What do you think? The car is stranded now, I pushed it to park and will give the dealer a buzz on Monday morning.

If I am right about the lower small belt, what is the cost?

Thanks,
Greg
