Blower motor blues 200 1990

The ac/heater blower motor started acting up on my '90- 240 wagon.
If I run it at less than full speed it starts wavering up and down and blows the fuse.
Fan has been starting to make a little noise lately.
Is there an easy fix for this one or is it time for the famous Rip-the-dash-apart-and-replace-the-blower-motor-and-resister act?
