Wiring Oil Temp Gauge

Hi
I have a real quick question. I am going to be wiring my oil temp gauge soon I hope, it has been in there long enough without truly being hooked up.

Is it ok to wire the +, - of the bulb and the gauge itself to the same wires?
Or is it best to seperate them, bulbs on same circuit and + - for gauge on other?

The reason I ask is because I have an aftermarket (VDO) calibrated boost gauge, so pulling the + - would be easy off that if I could use both for bulb and gauge off that.

I would imagine the later, as the electrical gauge would need some basis to determine the temperature from the sender through electrical resistance, or however it works.

thanks

take care
