Water pump replacement on '88 740GLE 700 1988

I am attempting to replace the water pump on my 1988 740GLE following the procedures in the FAQ and have encountered a problem. The old water pump on my car has studs on the front flange that go through holes in the pulley and end up with 10mm nuts on the flange at the back of the fan hub. The new water pump has no studs, just threaded holes. The supplier I received the water pump from has never seen this arrangement before and has indicated that they cannot supply one with studs. Can the studs be 'backed out' of the old pump somehow? Are these studs available new? Any help would be greatly appreciated as the car is totally out of commission at this point.
Thanks in advance.
