Tailshaft Bushing Time! Anyone use the IPD Tool? 200 1982

I have been trying to track down a hideous driveline humm / growl. tonight I replaced my torque arm bushings, that helped a little bit. But... I definately have at least one bad U-joint - the rearmost one, it has definate play in the needle bearings. In addition, there is considerable play in the tailshaft.

I think I am ready to give this bushing replacement a try. Has anyone had success with the the IPD tool. FAQ reports two failures of the tool during use.

Should I save myself the $40 and just remove the housing?? I'm kinda worried about contaminating the trans. I haave access to a machine shop so bushing removal / installation is not a problem.

Should I spring for the Volvo replacement parts for this job??

Any tips and/or words of encouragement are appreciated.

Matt
