Instrument Cluster Problems 200

Oh boy, I've screwed up this one.
Today I was going to install my tach/clock kit I got. But when I took the instrument cluster out I had no clue how to hook it up. So I just went ahead and screwed in the tach w/o hooking up anything. Put everything back together and turned to key to start up the car. Two puffs of smoke came out of the dash. S***!!! So I started the car up anyway and started driving. The odometer and speedometer worked,to my suprise. But after about 5 min of driving I cut on my lights. Wow. The turn signal indicators are glowing constantly. When I put on my turn signal both of the indicators flash. I also discovered that the temp gauge reads 3/4 of the way up w/o budging. Even after I cut on the heat full blast. I also have no instrument cluster lights. All of this goes away if I turn my lights off completely. The rheostat will dim the radio(stock) and dim the turn signal lights, so I know its working. My question is... what is wrong and what did I do wrong? Did I burn up the tach? I'm thinking voltage stabilizer possibly. I didn't see any burnt wires when I replaced the tach back w/ the clock. Should I just get a new one or will used be fine(in terms of lasting if it is indeed that?

Sorry for the long post.

(Also) Anyone wanna email me offline and help me with the tach/small clock install so I don't screw it up again??

Thanks Alot
