Please don't take this wrong, but, a compression test is good but really does not tell you everything you need to know. It does not tell you the condition of the pistons, rings, etc. It tells you compression in the cylinder. It does not tell you if pressure is leaking out due to bad rings, valves, etc. Only, and I mean only a leak down test will tell this. If you rely on a compression test to tell you the condition of the engine, you are asking for a major headache. Get a leak down test performed. It costs about $100 at a competent shop. Do not get it done at a shop recommended by the seller of the car.
