Dipstick Mystery

I had a similar problem with a motor swap. It turned out to be simply an old o-ring stuck down in the hole where the dipstick fits into. The o-ring had hardened enough that I thought it was part of the block casting. Once I figured it out, pulled the o-ring out, and installed a new one, the tube slipped in with only a slight push. I'm not sure if your's is the same problem, but its worth a look-see.
