84 760GLE TD--Getting to the fuel sending unit? 700 1984

I am a bit embarrassed. I left the repair manual that may have the information I need in the other car. Before make a mess of things, can anyone help?

Is there any way to get at the fuel sending unit on my 760GLE Turbo Diesel through the interior or the trunk? I am really--REALLY--dreading having to drop the fuel tank.

I have checked the FAQ's. There is mention of 7** procedures, but with a plastic tank and for gasoline vehicles. Mine is a diesel, as I mentioned, and has a steel tank.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Steve
