86 245dl waits too long to shift to OD 200

86 240 wagon dl 204,000 miles automatic, it used to shift into OD at 43mph but now it waits till 53mph.I changed fluid, filter, kickdown cable, cleaned fuses, observed normal operation of OD switch on shifter(arrow lights up and locks out 4th), to shift into od i have to press the gas pedal all the way to the floor and let up quickly. I took cover off relay and left it hanging so I could see it during a drive and it clicks when I select the button on the shifter. I read about soldering but isn't my relay working? Is it hard to remove the solenoid and check it?
thanks
