u-haul questions 700 1991

Thanks for all the help with my previous query on the trailer hitch. I was able to get a class II drawbar for my existing hitch from u-haul for $20, and I found a 2" ball in a box of junk in my garage. I also tested the existing electrical harness and other than making the bulb-out light come on I'm all set. So now I'm ready to go. I'm picking up a 5x8 enclosed trailer tomorrow morning for a 700-mile 2-day round trip from Raleigh, NC to Harrisburg, PA and back.

All the u-haul trailers have a warning that says max safe speed 45 mph. I'm sure this is a joke. So what do you think is the max safe speed to be towing their trailer with my 740 wagon?

Also what is the reasoning behind the blurb in the manual that says don't use the overdrive on the automatic transmission while towing. The gross trailer weight, with junk inside, will be around 1500 pounds. Trans has fresh fluid and I will probably flush it out again when I get home.
