Locking torque converter? 700 1991

My '91 740 with the AW71L seems to lockup just fine at exactly 45 mph. As I drive, under moderate throttle, when it hits 45 it seems almost as if the car has shifted to another OD (or a fifth gear).

Likewise, as the speed drops below 45 (no throttle), I can easily tell when lockup "drops out" because the RPM suddenly falls as the TC disconnects and the idling engine slows.
