When SHOULD my electric fan turn on?? 900 1993

I have had my 940 for a few days now and I cant recall seeing the electric cooling fan turn on, it is about 80 deg here and I just let the car idle for a good 10 min after a trip and the fan hasnt turned on. I can short together the leads for the radiator temp sw. and the fans kicks right on, could my temp sw be bad? is there some type of test I can perform on the switch that involves a pot of hot water and an muli-meter.

Thanks!

Matt
