Rear Light Problem! 700

Most of this occured while I had the flu so I remember little of what I did to mess this up but in a nutshell....

Turn/warning (yellow)lights work. Reverse lights (clear) work. The lower red lights work but....the driver side socket has 2 of the plastic clips broken so needs to be replaced. I manage to have it staying in place but it is dimmer than the passenger side and when I have the lights on, the lower red lights GO OUT when I use the brakes. The upper red lights (brake) do not come on at all. I swapped the bulbs with the lower and they work in the lower socket but not in the upper brake light. There are black sockets all around. No white socket on either side as I have read in the forum. The brake light in the rear window works fine.

Any idea what I did or am doing wrong? My repair manual is on loan so I can't look there. Thanks!!!
