Automatic kick down cable 200 1984

The kick down cable from the throttle spool to the rt side of the tranny hangs up after the car sits for a week or so, and does not return. I've sprayed WD40 in it and it works OK now , until you push to the floor and engage the kick down, then it sticks. The cable seems OK, but what is at the tranny end?
Can one easily disconnect the end at the tranny to check what ever thingy the cable pulls on?
I'd like to figure whether it's the cable or in the tranny.
