od relay and solenoid questions? 200

Is there a way to check my solenoid's function other than putting 12v at the solenoid when I am parked? I am thinking of putting a toggle switch on it asnd checking it. I have re soldered my relay and verified clicking of solenoid My od switch also operates ok. I still have not felt Overdrive in my 240 yet. I don't want to just start throwing part at it until I know what is actually wrong . Also My upshift light in the lower right of my gauge cluster is illuminated all the time, it does dim a bit when I use my od switch.. What's up with that? any help here would be great.
