safe removal of moulding clips? 200 1983

Hi,

What is the best way to remove the plastic moulding clips that snap into the body? The trim i'm talking about is the 4-piece trim that runs horizontally from front to back of car, about 6 inches or so below the bottom of the windows. The trim is usually chrome with black rubber on the bottom.

I was able to pull a complete set of moulding from a pick-n-pull with the clips intact, but my driver-side door and one of my front quarter panels still has old clips in there from when the old moulding was there (before i got the car). I want to get the old clips out without damaging the paint but am not sure the best way to go about it.

any tricks or tips on this are appreciated.

thanks!

susan.
