Steering Wheel Surprise 444-544 1963

The steering wheel has become disengaged from the spline on my 1963 544. This was a bit disconcerting as I was in rush hour traffic in Washington DC at the time.

What is the proper procedure for proper reinstallion of the wheel? There did not appear to be a non destructive method to remove the plastic emblem in the center of the steering wheel hub to access the retaining nut.

It was kind of hairy driving the thing with a pop off steering wheel.

Thanks,

Joe
