Fuel line compatability? 200 1984

84 242 turbo. Just replaced the fuel filter. The hard rubber fuel line is really difficult to reinstall. I am about to change the main pump. I think its the original unit so I am sure that I will have to cut the fuel line off. Can I just replace that line with any type of fuel line, or will I need to replace it with the original type of line?
