In trunk lights 200 1989

This may be a stupid question, but there is a small light on the underside of the hood that I honestly just noticed. What size bulb does this thing take? Looks useless, but what the heck, I like to have everything work. Is there one in the trunk? Do I need to do anything weird to turn it on if there is? My wife's old jetta had to have the headlights on in order for the trunk light to come on.
