Help with Radio Code. I Think I have tried all the Ideas in the Forum and still OFF! 700

Hi. I just obtained a 1990 volvo 760 turbo wagon. The lady that sold it to me pulled the radio to show me how to do the code (16950). worked fine. A week later I removed battery. when reconnected battery the word "code" came up. I pushed 16950 aut. nothing. tried 6950 aut. nothing. Tried diffrent combos for several days I would either get "off" or three characters that were not standard letters or numbers. Now all I get is "off". I tried to remove the Bat again and left key in the position that just powers radio for 3 hrs. Still nothing. Just "off" no code or characters. I even called the lady to be sure I had the correct code and she confirmed.

Any Ideas?
