WHAT JUST BROKE? 700 1985

I run over 20psi in my 85 740 turbo wagon. I use a manual boost controler and have eliminated my overboost switch. My car has been hitting high boosts for quite a while except now. Whats happening is under high boost (over 14psi) is my car will make a loud "pissssttt" and then I can not get an boost until I let off the gas for a few seconds. The "pissssttt" sound is identical to the blow off valve but extremely loud now! I am wondering if you think I broke my stock blow off valve or my stock wastegate or what. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanx! Steve S.
