Are all temperature compensating boards the same? 200 1987

this will (hopefully) be my last post before finally putting this issue to rest. here's the quick summary:
temp gauge has the odd swings sometimes and otherwise doesn't work
pulled inst cluster, cleaned contacts, resoldered TCB
grounded temp sender wire, gauge needle shot up and then dropped
replaced wire harness

while at the junkyard, i found another 240 and took out the TCB. are they all interchangeable? i'm not sure what year it was from, but mine's an 87 and it was definitely older. if this one doesn't work, i'll probably use the starkie approach and eliminate the TCB altogether.

thanks
