Oil in turbo hoses & possible leak from oil cooler - opinions wanted...its weird 900

940 turbo, 91....

I have had this car about 1200 miles...

in the first 1000 it used maybe 1 litre of oil (all around town driving)

I then did a 120 mile 'fast' trip and it used almost 1/2 litre of oil!

I have since done about 100 miles around town and it has used almost no oil..

Now the oil cooler (mounted to side of radiator, under intercooler exit pipe)
is a little oiled up (has been cleaned twice) and my mechanic diagnosed leaking oil cooler...so i have just got a new one - planned to fit it myself so removed top bracket to de-rust/paint prior to fitting cooler. In order to get this out i had to disconect iuntercooler exit hose..and noticed it was oil covered inside..now i mean an amount of oil you could wipe off with kitchen towel without soaking the towel..and the next of the intercooler was also oily inside...so i drained the intercooler and removed maybe a table spoon of oil...

Checked the inlet pipes to the intercooler and they and less oil inside them..but still a film...

question is:-

1. is the cooler leaking of has it 'escaped' from intercooler join...

2. should I worry about this level of oil in the pipes..the FAQ say both that this is normal....and that it is the sign of a blown turbo...

3. can anyone see why the cooler would leak more on a high speed run than round town...

oh yes..and im running mobil 0w40 synthetic...

all opinions welcome...
