Timing problem 700 1989

It is indeed impossible to determine your timing without a good harmonic balancer. I had this happen on my 86 740 na. Not only does it help determine correct timing, it can also help with the engine harmonics (vibration). Believe it or not, after replacing my balancer, I discovered that the timing was indeed 15 degrees too far advanced. That was the cause of my massive pinging problem under hard acceleration. Hint: if the car is pinging, do not drive it under hard acceleration for very long. Engine damage can result.
