Cancer of the header pipe??? 200

I bought my 1991 245se about 2-3 months ago, and while looking through the PO's service papers, I notice that the header pipe has been replaced about every 9-13 months. How is this possible I ask... then I look underneath the car, and the connection to the CAT is starting to rust away to nothing!! The thing was just replaced like 6 months before I got the car... I am thinking baout replacing this myself, is 79.04 for a Bosal header pipe a good price? I want to get this thing fixed since the exhaust escaping from the joint makes my car sound like crap... kinda like flooring a manual in 4th gear going 20 MPH... any tips on how to prevent this from re-occuring in the future after I replace it?
