Alternator wiring info 700

The red wire going into the back supplies the exciter current for the windings. If this shorts or disconnects, you will have no charge. It goes through the strut tower connector to the instrument panel. Check for continuity.

If your wiring harness is expiring, there is really no cure other than a new harness. You can insulate with the paint-on plastic or tape, but both these are subject to engine heat and won't last for long. A better approach is to cut out the offending section and crimp-and-solder a new section into it. See the FAQ for more information.
