Reversing light switch - M40 140-160 1973

No reverse lights - argh.

Jump the wires at the reversing light switch, and they work.

Much cussing later, I have the switch out.

Much degreaser and contact cleaner later, I have the switch working. Yay!

HOWEVER (and this is the oddest thing) the reversing light switch has 3 contacts. Somehow, if I'm reading the wiring diagram correctly, the "Fasten Seat Belts" light runs through the switch. Why? I have no stinking clue!

The dilemma:
contact A is a common contact
contact B is continuous to A with the plunger OUT
contact C is continuous to A with the plunger IN

Now the wiring diagram labels the contacts 1, 2, & 3. Maybe the switch contacts ONCE had labels, but either [a] they are no longer present, or [b] my eyes are too old!

I simply need to know if the reverse light circuit should be complete with the plunger IN or OUT.

TIA
