Hi Everyone. I'm new to this group, but have been in many similar groups for different cars. It's nice having a place to ask questions pertaining to certain cars.
I have a hobby of buying cars at salvage car auctions, fixing them and selling them making a little money or replacing my current car if I like it beter. I have had many different cars, but never a volvo until reciently. I didn't know volvo made a 700 series coupe, but I ended up buying it. I think this car is sweet - even more so after doing a little research. It has 77,000 miles, but the last owner was a smoker. It was painted green (was red), but it was a good job. The leather is nice and the interior for the most part is in good shape. I bought the car for $1300 (it was not a driver - donated car). I found the maintnence record in the glovebox and it was maintained at a volvo dealership - last service 70,000 miles - oil changed last in june. No body damage, But there is a catch.
There is a lot of water in the oil(no metal shavings, just lots of water). I replaced the oil and tried to start it - wouldn't start, and found the oil contaminated with water again (still?). Pulled the plugs - #1 looks fine #2 looks rusty #3 rusty also #4 looks fine. I'm hoping that rusty trend doesn't continue in the engine...
I'm hopeing it's just a blown head gasket, but my past experience with blown headgaskets is water leaking into the cylinders, not the crank case. I'm going to tear into it here in a few days, but I figured I'd see if anyone here has words of wisdom beforehand. Any experience with water being in places it shouldn't be would be helpful.
