The Great Tire Question 200 1987

Hello brickophiles:

The tires on my 87 245 have reached the point of concern for me. I want to replace them soon. There's always lots of talk about what kind of tires to get. Let me just say that I'm tired (pun intended) of going to Sears and settling for what's on sale. Instead, I want to find a good tire and shop for that particular tire. This is where all of you come in.

I solicit your recommendations. Here's the criteria for me:

I live in Austin, Texas, and do mostly city driving. The winters are wet here, and the roads are not of terribly good quality. My gripes with the current tires on my Volvo are that they don't provide enough confidence for me on the wet days. I have had two incidents of the rear swinging out on me already. I am a conservative and cautious driver, and do not really push the car to its limits. I want a tire with good wet weather traction (I know this is also dependent on other factors, like suspension), and one that will last a while (I remember the BF Goodrich tires on my mother's Pontiac wore away quickly, but I once had a set of Michelins that lasted forever).

Looking for brand, recommended size, and good places to find it. Thanks in advance for your advice!
