How much do you want to spend?

Probably the best two wagons of late 1990s vintage are the BMW 528iT and the Mercedes E320 wagon. The 528iT can be had with a 5-speed, that would be my own choice.

If the BMW-Mercedes price is too steep (It is for me, I notice right now one can buy a NEW V70T5 for the cost of a USED 1998 E320 wagon! The Mercedes may be nicer but it's not that much nicer!) I'd look for a nice Volvo 850 or V70 turbo wagon with good service records and have it checked out by a good indy Volvo shop. Avoid the AWD Volvos and the 960-SV90.
