fuel system diagnostic fault code question 700 1990

My wife's 740 wagon stalled while driving last Tuesday, and she had to get the car towed home. Hasn't started since. From some simple checks, I believe that it is in fuel delivery. I tried using the onboard diagnostics, with the pin in socket 2 to test fuel system, and got no response -- light doesn't flash at all. The light does come on when I first push the button down to start the test, though. For ignition fault test with pin in socket 6, I get 1-1-1 indicating no detected fault. So, the system seems to be working. Does anyone know what a "no response" means? Is that diagnostic in its own right, without flashing a code?
