Ground wire under Driver's seat ? 200 1980

Yesterday I was rooting around under the carpet on the driver's side of my 1980 242 hoping to find a loose connection for my taillight and low and behold amidst all the rust and corrosion I found a loose ground wire with a plastic covered flag type connector that was tucked (or supposed to be connected) under the seat support. The wire was coming from the rear of the car from inside the regular harness that carries the taillight wires and rear demist etc. Does anyone know what this ground wire is for?

Thanks
Marty
