Synthetic v. Dino oil. 200

I know this is an ugly debate, but I am looking for real life experiences in cars with the same motor as my own. I just got an 89 245 and want the engine to lst forever. I very much doubt the prior owner knew what synthtic oil was, let alone ever used it. My guess is that she just went to kwik-e-lube for everything.

So, on an 89 245 with 172,000 miles on dino oil, do I put seals at risk by switching now? does that new "high mileage" oil (Pennzoil?) really have additives to help condition seals?

Also, what other oils can/cannot be changed to synthetics? Man. Trans oil? Differential?

Thanks

adam
